GRC & GRP questions, answered
The questions people ask most often about glass fibre reinforced concrete and glass reinforced plastic.
Is GRC the same as GFRC?+
Yes. GRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete) and GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) describe the same material. The names differ by region.
Is GRC strong?+
Yes. The glass fibres give GRC high flexural strength for its thickness. Strength is verified by testing samples for Modulus of Rupture (MOR) and Limit of Proportionality (LOP) to BS EN 1170-5.
Can GRC be used outdoors?+
Yes. GRC is widely used for external façades in hot climates such as the UAE.
Which is lighter, GRC or GRP?+
GRP is lighter than GRC. Both are much lighter than solid precast concrete.
Which is better for a villa façade?+
GRC is usually preferred for façades, cornices, columns and window surrounds because of its stone-like finish and durability. GRP suits domes, canopies and very complex lightweight shapes.
Is GRC fireproof?+
GRC is cement-based and non-combustible in most mixes. The exact fire classification depends on the mix and should be confirmed for each project's specification.
Do you work in all seven Emirates?+
Yes. Angel GRC, GFRC & GRP Manufacturing delivers GRC and GRP projects across all seven Emirates from our base in Ajman.
Can you work from architectural drawings?+
Yes. We review architectural drawings, panelise the design and prepare shop drawings for consultant approval.
Do you provide installation only?+
Our usual scope is the complete package. Supply-only or installation-only scopes are reviewed case by case.
How thick is a GRC panel?+
GRC skins are commonly around 10–15 mm, with ribs, returns or steel frames providing stiffness. Final thickness is set by the design and specification.
What standard covers GRC?+
GRC is commonly specified and tested to BS EN 1169 (factory production control) and BS EN 1170 (test methods).
How heavy is GRC?+
GRC has a density similar to concrete, but because it is cast so thin, the weight per square metre is a fraction of solid precast.
What is the price of GRC per square metre?+
Pricing depends on the project design, quantity, specifications and scope of work. Please share your drawings, BOQ or project details with our team for review.
Is GRC cheaper than stone?+
GRC is often chosen as a lighter alternative to natural stone and precast because it reduces structural load and installation effort. The overall cost comparison depends on the project.
Is GRP the same as fibreglass?+
Yes. GRP and fibreglass refer to the same type of material.
Is GRP suitable for outdoor use in the UAE?+
Yes, with UV-stable gelcoats or coatings it is widely used outdoors for domes, canopies and planters.
Can cracked GRC be repaired?+
Yes. Chips and hairline cracks can be repaired and colour-matched; damaged panels can be rectified or replaced.
Does GRC need waterproofing?+
GRC itself has low permeability; water tightness of the façade depends mainly on joint sealants and the building envelope behind it.
Is a GRP ladder strong enough?+
Yes. GRP ladders are designed for regular personnel access; the section sizes and fixings are selected for the height and use.
Can GRP ladders be used inside drinking water tanks?+
GRP is widely used in water tanks; for potable water, materials and resins must be suitable for drinking-water contact as required by the project specification.
How do I get a quotation for a GRP ladder?+
Send the height, quantity and site photos or drawings on WhatsApp and our team will review the requirement.
How long does a GRP lining last?+
A well-applied GRP lining on a sound, properly prepared surface gives long service; life depends on the substrate, the specification and how the tank or area is used.
Can GRP lining be applied to an old tank?+
Yes. Old concrete tanks are commonly relined with GRP after surface repairs, which is often quicker than rebuilding the tank.
Is GRP lining suitable for drinking water tanks?+
Yes, when food-grade / potable-water approved resins and topcoats are used as required by the project specification and authority.
